On Tuesday, March 16th (St. Patrick’s Day EVE) three bands will join forces at The Midway Cafe in Jamaica Plain to raise money to fight Elder Hunger through the Meals on Wheels programs of Dedham and Jamaica Plain.
All proceeds raised by ticket sales will be divided evenly between the Dedham and Jamaica Plain Meals on Wheels programs. The Midway Cafe is donating the space at no cost, and the bands are volunteering their time to help stamp out Elder Hunger. In addition to raising money for Meals on Wheels, we will also be collecting non-perishable food items for the Dedham Food Bank. Everyone who donates an item will be entered into a drawing for prizes. You must be present to win.
Performing Bands
Boys of the Town: A traditional Irish trio of guitar, fiddle, whistle and flute, Boys of the Town has been entertaining audiences in the Worcester area for the past several years.
Maguire, Fitzpatrick & Frey: This event marks the debut of Maguire, FitzPatrick & Frey, a tradition-music focused trio that thrives on acoustic instruments and gentle harmonies.
The UnHoly Mackerels: Formed in 2005 (as “The PCI Compliants”), The UnHoly Mackerels are a cover band based in Dedham (and features yours truly on guitar and vocals).
Tickets are $10 in advance, or $15 the day of the show. Purchase tickets here.

right now, i know that pleasant st in watertown is closed because the charles has taken it over. also parts of soldier's field road. i want to get home tonight at some point (brookline). and advice would be appreciated.
EDIT: WE CAN BE OUR OWN ACCURATE KEEPERS OF ROAD FUCKEDUPNESS INFORMATION.
Please post here if you've had any experience with closed roads due to the wonderfully inclement weather we've had these past few days.

Hello, I'll be going abroad next year, at least for one year. I would like to rent my Somerville single family while I am away. Since it is always tricky to rely on friends etc (mixing business and friendship can be trouble), I would like to use a property management company for this. Does anyone have any experience with any such companies in Somerville/Boston? Any other ideas? Thanks for any tips.

Does anyone know off-hand how quickly a city inspector comes to inspect your apartment when you make a formal complaint/request for inspection? Alternatively, are they relatively quick in their ruling? We'd like out of our shithole and as it's getting towards the end of the month, I'm wondering if I should start on the new apartment search.
For those that remember, I posted about the unknown animals (later deemed koalas) living in my walls and ceilings. Well, soon we will have no ceilings to keep the koalas inside. Our ceiling has been leaking upstairs-neighbor-shower-water for 3 months, and now with the monsoon, my boyfriend's office is pretty much a swimming pool with bits of ceiling floating in it. In other fun news, a few weeks ago the dead tree in our front yard finally gave up and crashed two limbs into one of our cars, crushing it.
GOOD TIMES, GOOD TIMES.
edit: Called the landlord today, he said he will "come by tomorrow and see what [he] can do." Great.

You're invited to
sprout spaghetti dinners is a dinner theater series seeking to bring people from the Somerville and Cambridge communities together around good food, good music, and good performance. Each month, we'll find an eclectic group of performers to explore the month's theme through different lenses. In the tradition of dinners hosted by NYC-based theater company Great Small Works, we want to cast new light on common ideas from artistic, musical, and scientific perspectives. You can find information about past dinners at our blog.
The theme for this month's dinner is Haiti: What Now? We want to ask: what should happen next in the rebuilding of Haiti, and how can we best support the reconstruction? It will happen just outside of Davis Square at sprout (339R Summer St.) on Wednesday March 17 with dinner at 7:30pm and performances beginning at 8. A $10 suggested donation will be donated to the Matenwa Community School on La Gonave.
Our performers will include ::
- Michel DeGraff is a linguist focusing on Creole and an Associate Professor at MIT. He will talking about political interests vying for influence in the reconstruction of Haiti; and present images from his recent trip there.
- The History of the Haitian Revolution is a toy theater performance written and directed by John Bell and performed by Trudi Cohen, Shaunalynn Duffy, Brooke Jarrett, Adam Schutzman, and Michael Romanyshyn. Originally performed as a part of Antiretrovirals and Water Refugees: A Living Newspaper on Haiti, this toy theater spectacle chronicles the history of the Haitian Revolution in miniature (battles, politics, and all), as a conflict of Enlightenment principles and 19th-century globalization.
- Cherie Miot Abbanat is a lecturer in MIT's Department of Urban Studies and Planning. She will be talking about reconstruction efforts through the lens of an urban planner, exploring the politics of construction and rebuilding processes.
Please send any questions to spaghetti@thesprouts.org or call 617.575.9219.
hope to see you on the 17th!

Somerville, by David Misch, 1973 (lyrics)
Wintertime in Somerville, by Local Radio

So
b0st0n , I love my pets, if not for my failing health I would keep them. And yes I know
artementy I looked pretty healthy when you saw me, but good days like that are few and fair between.
I am moving into an assisted living facility on March 24th. The only pet I can bring with me is my dog, Byron. Leaving my guinea pig, my rabbit, my insane cat, and my 4 cockatiels without a home. I also can't bring my second tv, my couch my computer desk, a futon, four fish tanks and a few other things with me.
So I am giving them away. The animals to good homes, and the rest to people who need them. They will go with their homes, a full bag of replacement litter and food for at least a week. And the request that you send me notes every once in a while and let me know how my babies are doing.

Come whenever. If you want to come but you think that you might be showing up much later, we could very well still be there. Feel free to email me at countlibras at yahoo dot com and we can discuss. Do not email me after 4pm - I'll be away from a computer by then.
P.S. Steve, if you're reading, I hope you and the missus will come by!
